Our recruitment and selection process involves a number of stages. These are:

Initial Shortlisting
Stage 1 Complete Gateway Questions to ensure suitability.
Stage 2 Successful candidates should complete the Inspector Application Form and return to email address.
Stage 3 Applications will be reviewed, matched with the person specification and Shortlisted against competencies for the role.
Stage 4

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to complete a Verbal Reasoning Questionnaire via an email link. This questionnaire looks at a candidate’s ability to understand, analyse and interpret written information, often of a complex or specialised nature. It consists of a number of short passages of text followed by statements based on the information given in the passage and asks candidate’s to indicate whether the statements are true or false, or whether it is not possible to say so either way.

Our Initial Shortlisting allows us to ensure suitability for the post and that the best candidates, who meet the needs of the Care Inspectorate, are selected for assessment.

Assessment Centre
Stage 5 Successful candidates will be invited to an Assessment Centre which will include:
  • a 10 minute presentation (which should be prepared in advance) which will be followed directly by
  • a 45 minute competency based interview (to a panel) and
  • a 30 minute written exercise.

Dates for the Inspector Assessment Centres are week commencing 12th June 2017.

We believe that our Assessment Centre approach ultimately makes a positive contribution to the Quality of Care provided by the sector in Scotland and supports one of our primary aims to Continuously Improve. Each year we review and raise the standard and quality of decision making in our recruitment and selection process, which includes enhanced objectivity and provides a platform for effective working between operational and support managers here at the Care Inspectorate.
