Background

Scotland’s new Health and Social Care Standards were published by the Scottish Government in June 2017.

The new standards set out what care should look and feel like for people every time they use health and social care services; they aim to establish people’s care experiences, rather than compliance with technical inputs, as the key measure of quality.  The standards are not tied to any particular care setting, and will help to support partnership working and improvement in services across health and social care.  They complement the body of existing and emerging guidance on clinical interventions and specific services with a focus on what really matters – the experience of the person who uses services, and ensuring that the quality of that experience is as the standards describe.
