The Scottish Government has updated their advice on Vitamin D for all age groups in Scotland, following recommendations from the Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition (SACN) .

Vitamin D plays an important role in maintaining bone health throughout life. Vitamin D deficiency can lead to

  • infants having muscle weakness and bone softening leading to rickets
  • adults having muscle weakness and osteomalacia, which leads to bone pain and tenderness.

You can read a full list of the recommendations on the Scottish Government website or by downloading the letter sent to the Care Inspectorate by the Chief Medical Officer Directorate.
