As of 30 March 2012, all people working as supervisors in care home services for adults must be registered with the SSSC.

The definition of supervisors is:

Workers in a care home service for adults who have responsibility for supervising workers and for overseeing and monitoring the implementation of care.

If you have already ensured that the people who work in your service are registered with SSSC or with another body such as the General Teaching Council or the Nursing and Midwifery Council, then you need not take any further action.

The Care Inspectorate has the responsibility to enforce required registration on behalf of Government.  It is an offence for providers to employ someone not registered who should be. After March we shall be contacting services who appear not to have registered workers.  Actions we might take where staff are not appropriately registered include; re-grading, enforcement action or reporting providers to the Procurator Fiscal.
