Annette Bruton, Chief Executive, said: "This is a tragic and disturbing case which profoundly affected the community in north Edinburgh and beyond.

"The full facts are not yet known.  We welcome the serious case review, and expect it to be comprehensive, thorough, and robust. We expect it to determine exactly what happened and establish if there was any action which might have led to a different outcome.   If there are lessons to be learned, they must be directed at preventing future tragedy. We will be monitoring carefully any recommendations from the serious case review to ensure they are implemented.

"We expect all social work departments to work closely together to protect vulnerable children, no matter where they live. It is everybody's responsibility to make sure children are safe, and professionals must work closely together to make sure that happens.”
