SCOTLAND’S regulator for care services has launched a cutting edge on-line resource to help share good practice and drive up standards across a host of vital services.

The Care Inspectorate has today unveiled The Hub, an on-line knowledge resource for Scotland’s 200,000 care and social work professionals.

From exclusive good practice videos, links to legislation and policy developments, event listings to sign-posting innovation, The Hub aims to be a one-stop-shop for anyone with an interest in the care and social work sectors.

Plus, anyone who has experienced excellent care, or a service provider delivering innovative care, can submit their stories to share good practice.

Launching the resource, Annette Bruton, the Care Inspectorate’s Chief Executive, said: “As Scotland’s regulator for care services, the Care Inspectorate inspects and regulates more than 14,000 care homes, nurseries and other vital care services across the country.

“Our detailed inspection reports are published on our website  www.careinspectorate.com but on top of that we gather a huge amount of information about care-related issues.

“As well as our rigorous inspection activity, we have a duty to signpost innovative ways to deliver the best possible care. The Hub will help us do exactly that and there is some excellent care happening in Scotland today.

“This online resource will also allow our teams of expert inspectors to access information in the field and help inform our inspections, as we aim to drive standards up for  everyone.

“The Hub provides one-stop-shop access to a range of resources aimed at supporting improvement in social care and social work sectors through the use and sharing of intelligence and research-led practice.

“The majority of services we regulate perform well, and we are determined to ensure that standards across the board continue to rise.

“This is an important tool to help us do that.”

The Hub is one of the first websites of its kind for the care sector.

Charlie Buckle, an inspector with the Care Inspectorate, said: "When we are out on inspection, sharing information is really important. Looking at good-practice guidance is a significant benefit to inspectors when we are inspecting or investigating complaints.

"This gives us the evidence and examples we need to illustrate our recommendations and requirements.

"The fact it is right up to date means we can show service providers and refer them to it and that is a real benefit for them and us.

"It means that as a regulator we remain ahead of the game and puts us ahead in terms of expertise.”
