This resource supports the Scottish Government’s document A Blueprint for 2020: the expansion of early learning and childcare in Scotland and links to the Quality Action Plan.

Out to Play is a result of partnership working between Inspiring Scotland and the Care Inspectorate. The guide is an important step towards increasing outdoor play and learning for Scotland’s children. It provides practical advice and guidance on how to utilise local greenspace and how to set up good quality outdoor early learning and child care and out of school care settings. The document highlights the benefits of children spending time in a good quality outdoor environment and the positive impact this can have on their care, learning, health and wellbeing. This resource compliments Space to Grow: design guidance for early learning and childcare and out of school care setting, My World Outdoors and the Care Inspector’s Practice Note Early Learning and Childcare: Delivering High Quality Play and Learning Environments Outdoors.

Every early learning and child care and out of school care setting will be sent a copy of the document. The online document can be accessed through the Scottish Government’s website
